How does Displacement Ventilation work?
Displacement Ventilation introduces supply air into a room at low velocity and usually at low level. The supply air arrives at a heat source such as a person, computer etc and is entrained into the rising air pattern caused by the warming of the ambient air around the heat source. Usually this warm air is collected at high level by the extract system.
This is a typical description but it doesn’t describe all of the possibilities. Other types of displacement ventilation designs involve high volumes of air that effectively fill the room with air conditioning from the ground up, thus ensuring that the air in the Occupied Zone is freshest
Why use Fabric Ducting for Displacement Ventilation?
When we use Fabric (or Textile) Ventilation for Displacement Ventilation systems we can supply the air at extremely low velocity thanks to the micro-perforation technology developed and patented by Prihoda which allows precise amounts of supply air through the tiny 0.2mm Micro-perforations laser cut into the ducting material.
High and Low Level Ducting Systems For Hot and Cold Air Distribution
It’s normal for Displacement Ventilation systems to supply lots of air but with a small cooling temperature difference – usually something in the region of 1-3 degrees below room temperature. This allows us to mount the Fabric Ducting systems at high level or low level depending upon which suits the application best – if the ducts are mounted at high level, the cooler air falls at low velocity under its own density into the occupied zone.
Displacement Ventilation Design For Improved Air Distribution
Distribution of the supply air is often much more effective when using textile ventilation systems as there is so much area of material diffusing air into the room. This also happily ensures that this air is delivered at low velocity and low noise levels.
Because fabric ducting systems are available in a range of shapes and installation options (not to mention colours and art or graphic designs) there exists a huge flexibility in choosing just how you want to achieve your Displacement Ventilation system and how you want it to look and perform.
